Malabar Social Service Society, in collaboration with Usha International and M.G.S. Kalari Sangham, organized the Third Kalaripayattu Championship at Sreepuram English Medium School Auditorium with the participation of over 200 artists. The event highlighted Kerala’s indigenous martial art, showcasing its unique blend of physical fitness, mental discipline, teamwork, and cultural heritage.

The championship was inaugurated by Mar Joseph Pandarasseril, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Kottayam, who emphasized the importance of promoting Kalaripayattu as a means of safeguarding heritage, improving health, and presenting Kerala’s culture to the world.Recognized as one of the oldest martial arts in the world, Kalaripayattu offers a holistic practice that strengthens both body and mind, making it not only a combat technique but also a way of life. The championship provided a vibrant platform to promote, protect, and pass on Kerala’s martial traditions to future generations, while underlining the significance of cultural preservation in today’s world.

In the competitions, Payyambally Kalari Sangham secured the first place, Hindustan Kalari Sangham, Sreekandapuram won the second place, and Gurukripa Kalari Sangham, Kathirur secured the third place. The winners were honored with cash awards, trophies, and certificates, which were distributed by Mr. Vadivelan Perumal (Deputy Manager, Usha International Ltd.) and Fr. Sibin Sunny Koottakallumkal (Secretary, MASSS).Special appreciation was extended to the trainers and mentors who invested their time in preparing the young participants. The event concluded with a note of gratitude to all collaborators and supporters, reaffirming the commitment of Malabar Social Service Society and its partners to nurture local talent, uphold Kerala’s cultural identity, and encourage youth to take pride in their traditions.
